N6849C History!
The aircraft registered as N6849C is a Beechcraft T-34A Mentor, serial number 53-3357, constructed in 1953 with construction number G-118. Originally built for the United States Air Force, it served as a primary trainer aircraft. The T-34A Mentor is a single-engine, two-seat military trainer derived from the Beechcraft Model 35 Bonanza, designed to provide an economical alternative to the North American T-6/SNJ Texan.
After its military service, the aircraft received a certificate of airworthiness in 1985. It was later acquired by the Georgia Historical Aviation Museum in Stone Mountain, GA, in 1988. In 2001, ownership transferred to Stebrooke LLC in New Smyrna Beach, FL. The American Airpower Heritage Flying Museum, affiliated with the Commemorative Air Force, took ownership in 2014, initially in Midland, TX, and later relocating to Dallas, TX, in 2015.
The aircraft remained registered to the American Airpower Heritage Flying Museum as of the latest records. It was photographed at Daytona Beach International Airport on March 18, 2023, indicating its continued operation.
In 2014, the American Airpower Heritage Flying Museum, affiliated with the Commemorative Air Force, took ownership of N6849C, and the aircraft is now based in Dallas, Texas.
Today, rides in N6849C are offered to the public, allowing aviation enthusiasts to experience the thrill of flight in an authentic military trainer. Operated by the museum, these flights serve as a living tribute to the aircraft’s rich history and the generations of pilots it helped train.
